A New Hope - Email Disney!

In August, preview pages in the upcoming Art of the Acolyte Book revealed, in Leslye Headland's own words, that Qimir/The Stranger had potential connections to the Knights of Ren, a group of force users that Kylo Ren eventually leads. By October, the news reported on Disney's decision to say "no" to "The Hunt For Ben Solo." These headlines converged, and the narrative connections between the Acolyte and the sequel trilogy have led to a new wave of interest from Star Wars fans. The passion we have for these stories unites us. These stories should be told! Let your voice be heard today: email Disney to Renew The Acolyte!

Subject Line: Star Wars: The Acolyte

To the Disney company,

To say there has been a disturbance in the Force would be an understatement. News of the Ben Solo project and its apparent rejection by Disney has sent shockwaves through the fandom. We in The Acolyte community can empathize with the fans of Kylo Ren/Ben Solo. We, too, know what it is like to want to see our beloved characters return for more adventures only to be denied by corporate bureaucracy.

The Acolyte community stands in solidarity with the desire to see The Hunt for Ben Solo become a reality, as it has also been revealed that Qimir, AKA the Stranger, is the founder of the Knights of Ren. This was already a popular theory in fandom spaces. Seeing it confirmed has certainly energized both fanbases. It is a very profound, narrative connection between the two characters and stories. It would be so wonderful to see both stories come to life and be told in the way they were meant to be.

Both the Star Wars sequel movies and The Acolyte faced the brunt of the toxicity that the Star Wars fanbase, sadly, has become infamous for. It cannot be said definitively if fandom vitriol has had a direct impact on company decision-making. However, with the speed at which a project like The Acolyte was cancelled (while other shows simply remain un-renewed), it is probably safe to assume fandom toxicity can, in part, be blamed for such decision-making. Greenlighting The Hunt for Ben Solo, as well as renewing The Acolyte for additional seasons, is an opportunity for the Disney company to prove that the voices of positivity in the fanbase matter.

Ben Solo, Qimir, and the relationships between them and their female counterparts, Rey and Osha, are among the richest additions to the Star Wars mythos. The return of Ben Solo could be the push Star Wars needs to move forward with the future of storytelling. The renewal of The Acolyte would also help to restore the faith of fans in Disney/Lucasfilm’s ability to not only create new stories but conclude them as well.

To see the Star Wars fanbase raise its voice in positive unison is proof of the love and optimism that exists within the fandom, too. These are troubled times we live in. Seeing the core message of Star Wars, hope and love, play out before our eyes is indeed encouraging. We believe the Force is with us. Please show us that our hope matters.

Let the Hunt for Ben Solo Happen.

Renew the Acolyte.

Sincerely,
