To the people of Lucasfilm:

One year ago, Star Wars fans embarked on a journey into a new era of a galaxy far, far away in the new Disney+ series, The Acolyte. Set in the age of the High Republic, audiences were given a look into the glory days of the Jedi and taken on adventures to exotic new worlds. The show features elaborate sets, fabulous costumes and lightsaber choreography so stunning that audiences were left breathless. Yet, the real centerpiece of the series are its characters. Played by a most talented cast, the struggles and complex relationships of the characters come to life via the nuanced and delightful performances of the amazing Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung Jae and the devilishly charming Manny Jacinto.

Sadly, as with most media that features diverse talent, both in front of and behind the camera, the Acolyte was dogged by a vicious hate campaign led by internet trolls and social media grifters. These people were relentless in their efforts to lob hate at the new series, much of which started well before the show even aired. The quality of the show was beside the point for these grifters. The point was to get attention and clicks and to achieve that they were willing to say anything. Unfortunately, their voices overshadowed all others and though probably not a direct result, the Acolyte was cancelled less than a month after the last episode aired

In the year since, The Acolyte, rather than going quietly into that good night, has grown in popularity. There has been fanfiction, fanart and cosplay. The presence of the fandom could definitely be seen and heard at the recent Star Wars celebration. Manny Jacinto was greeted by enthusiastic cheers and chanting for season two. According to media metrics such as Parrot Analytics, the show is very much in demand, continually maintaining a place in the top 5 of shows most consumed on Disney+.

Every person, whether they have been on board since episode one or have come to appreciate the show in the meantime, has their own unique reason for liking the show.

It is worth remarking that in a time of media content that is made to be consumed in a week and forgotten just as quickly, the Acolyte continues to hold its place. The fact that the one year anniversary of the show is here and the fandom is alive and well is testament to that. In spite of the voices of the haters still clamoring for attention, the voices of those who love the show and want it to continue persist as well. So, to the people of Lucasfilm, this is your chance to prove to the Star Wars fandom whose voices really matter.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.

May the force-fu be with you

Sincerely,
